The Mackenzie Sports Club hardcourt was last Sunday evening transformed when the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) successfully staged an East Mackenzie) versus West (Wismar) All Star game.
With a packed pavilion comprising an enthusiastic crowd supporting the respective banks of the river, the Mackenzie boys proved their superiority over their Wismar counterparts on an evening of brilliant weather which was a blessing to the open air event.
East, who dominated the game from jump ball won the game 49-46 with Shane Webster scoring 17 points and national youth player Akeem Kanhai 11 points.
At halftime East led 27-21.
For the West, Mark Rose posted 17 points and Keon Cameroon 10.
Meanwhile, president of LABA Abdulla Hamid is calling on corporate Guyana for more support. The previous governing body almost crumbled due to the lack of financial support said Hamid who added that he will be leaving no stone unturned.
Hamid said he was very thankful for friends of the LABA in Linden, overseas based ex-players from the community such as James Brusche, John Davidson, Charlie Couchman, Ewart Small and Banks DIH Limited just to name a few.
He added that despite the lack of sponsorship LABA was making sure that the game was being played on a regular basis which is their priority. He said he hoped that other sponsors will recognize the efforts of LABA and get on board.
