A man was remanded to prison yesterday by Magistrate Hazel Octive- Hamilton when he appeared before her accused of trafficking in narcotics at Port Kaituma.
Shem John pleaded not guilty to the charge which reads that on June 1 at Port Kaituma he had 690 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor Shaundel Daniels told the court that on the day in question John was seen at the Port Kaituma airstrip acting suspiciously. A search was subsequently conducted on his person and belongings. In a white Trisco biscuit box which John had in his possession, the suspected narcotic was found. He was later arrested and charged with the offence.
When asked if he wanted to say anything, John told the magistrate, “if the substance tested and show to be narco, then I lef it to the Almighty.”
He was remanded and the matter transferred to the Matthew’s Ridge Court for August 3.
