The Guyana Defence Force yesterday received 10 Ford D150 trucks from the United States Southern Command (US South Com) as part of the US Force’s programme to train and equip partner nations in combatting terrorism.
Commodore Gary Best received the trucks, which will be added to the GDF’s fleet and said they would be used mostly in special operations.
General Douglas Fraser made the donation on behalf of US South Com.
The two commanders had held discussions before on existing bilateral relations between the two forces and Best, according to a GDF release, praised the US force for its dedication and professionalism which he said provided Guyana with much needed experience in various fields.
Best, the release said, also emphasised the need for continued security cooperation through the office of the Military Liaison Officer.
