Linden police are now more convinced that 23-year-old Damion Lindore was the victim of murder and not a traffic accident and a cop has also been implicated in the matter.
Lindore was found dead on May 26 on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway in the vicinity of Silver Hill where it was reported that he had collided with a dog while driving his black Allion HB 8153. Kemol McAlmont was said to have been the lone passenger at the time and he escaped with just a few scratches and was hospitalized for a few days. He was questioned by the police and released but has since been rearrested.
According to reliable sources close to the family of Lindore, McAlmont was yesterday re-arrested alone with a police rank after a statement was given by another man who said he witnessed Lindore’s death. The sources said that he had escaped into the bush in an area along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway after the police rank had started beating Lindore. From all indications the police rank was a close friend of Lindore and was in the habit of renting one of his cars for extended periods without paying. The friendship started going sour after the officer’s girlfriend had shattered the front passenger window. Lindore had indicated to him that he needed the original glass to replace the damaged one.
Lindore’s girlfriend had told the SN that on the ill-fated night Damion and his friends had initially left Linden in his black PMM 4198 to secure parts for another vehicle which had reportedly turned over on the Soesdyke Highway. According to explanations given to his relatives they were attacked by a group of men who smashed the left front window and punctured the front and rear right side tyres.
“They claimed that after they were attacked the three other friends who had accompanied Damion to the Ram had fled into the bushes on the Highway and is go they were going back for them when Kemol claimed that they crashed“, a relative of Lindore said.
The man who provided the statement to the police said that Lindore was dead prior to the crashing of the car.
The police are investigating the reports and a few more arrests are likely soon. In the meantime the accused cop, McAlmont and the witness remain in police custody.
Lindore’s funeral is being delayed to allow further investigations. SN understands from police and other sources that the post-mortem conducted by the state’s pathologist on Monday indicated that the 23-year-old had died from injuries consistent with those caused by an accident. Not satisfied with this the family has since flown in a pathologist from Trinidad whose findings had not been released up to press time.
