A 48-year old carpenter of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was yesterday charged with the murder of another carpenter, whose lifeless body was discovered in a house at Mon Repos last Monday.
Chanderband Indar, 48, yesterday made an appearance before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with the murder of Ravindra Singh, 28, of Annandale, ECD. He was remanded to prison until June 18.
Singh’s mother, Bibi Amina told this newspaper yesterday that the family was contacted by the police over the weekend in relation to investigations into her son’s death.
She said the family observed several marks on her son’s body, including black and blue marks, while it was being prepared for cremation on Saturday and this was later pointed out to the police.
Amina said the results of a post-mortem examination which was undertaken the day before, indicated that his death was caused by manual strangulation. She said the family was informed that the caretaker of the house in which her son’s lifeless body was found last Monday, had been before the court in relation to a murder several years ago.
Singh’s lifeless body was discovered at the house at Lot 26, Block CC, Mon Repos around 6 am last Monday after he reportedly spent the night drinking with friends there. The man’s mother told this newspaper that her son was last seen the day before by another relative in the community where he lived and when he was discovered, she did not observe any marks of violence on his body. However, blood had oozed from her son’s mouth.
Persons living close to the house where his body was discovered told this newspaper that a number of persons would usually visit the house to consume alcohol.
A neighbour stated that Singh and a few other persons were at the house the night before he was discovered but it started to rain and no one saw what transpired at the house thereafter.
