Keisha Pablo, the teenager who was hit by a speeding car on Sheriff Street on Saturday night has been discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital and is recovering, while the driver of the car is in police custody.
Pablo, 17, of 69 Prashad Nagar had left work minutes before the accident and was crossing the road when a vehicle heading in a northerly direction on Sheriff Street struck her. She had just left work at Nirva Supermarket located on Sheriff Street.
Yesterday at the hospital, a shy Pablo had her left hand in a cast and said she was feeling much better and was glad to be going home. Pablo sustained a broken left arm and a gash to the back of her head.
According to other staff members who witnessed the accident Saturday night, they had finished working for the day and it was customary for everyone to wait outside for transportation. However they said that Pablo would usually separate from the group to find her own transportation since she lived nearby.
The girls said the car came out of nowhere colliding with Pablo head on, and she was flung into the air from the impact. The speeding vehicle managed to stop at the traffic lights at the corner of Garnett and Sherriff streets.
Meanwhile, the driver is now in police custody. Pablo’s aunt said that they have to visit the police station to give a statement some time today. The driver of the car which had hit Pablo reportedly visited the hospital after the accident and later tried to escape, but was held by the police.
