Three men are in police custody following a robbery committed on a man at Hyde Park, Timehri on Sunday evening.
According to the police, a quantity of gold jewellery, which was taken from Daniel Higgins around 9:15 pm as the man was walking along the Hyde Park, Timehri public road was recovered with the help of public-spirited persons.
Investigations revealed that Higgins, a miner, was walking along Hyde Park public road when he was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm and the other with a chopper. The men took away two gold chains he was wearing at the time and escaped in a waiting motor car, the police said.
The victim’s brother was contacted and he gave chase behind the getaway vehicle in which the two men escaped after robbing Higgins. The bandits’ getaway was short-lived as the vehicle suffered a puncture at the junction of the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Police said after an alarm was raised, ranks along with public-spirited persons responded, resulting in the arrest of three men while one other managed to escape. The two gold chains stolen from Higgins and a toy gun were found in the men’s possession.
The men who hail from East Ruimveldt and Turkeyen are in police custody while the motor car, PHH 2309, has been detained by the police.
