Dear Editor,
Mrs Persad-Bissessar should be congratulated on her magnificent victory at the polls. The people of Trinidad and Tobago and particularly the PP’s supporters were indeed thankful to her and her government for the positive developments realised over the short period.
I note Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar’s track record of involvement in the coalition movement of Trinidad and Tobago and indeed the wider Caribbean Her association and leadership position with the UNC provided her with both the expertise and experience in negotiating better and just rewards for all Trinidadians as well as the popular mass support base that is now translated into her leadership of the whole Twin-Island Republic.
Indeed, Mrs Persad-Bissessar’s political triumphs evoke memories of our own Cheddi Jagan whose life-long commitment to uplifting his people’s lives was made before he died.
I recall with some pride too that just prior to becoming the oil-rich island’s Prime Minister for the first time, Mrs Persad-Bissessar wanted deeper Caricom integration and respect for all Caribbean nationals. May our two governments work towards strengthening the ties of mutual co-operation between the people of Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
Yours faithfully,
Mohamed Khan
