A man, who pleaded guilty to attempting to rob a policeman, after asking him for $20, was jailed for one year by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday.
John Chung, 42, of 295 South Road, Lacytown pleaded guilty to attempting to rob police constable Sanjay Singh on May 30 on South Road.
He told the magistrate that on the day he was under the influence of alcohol and “lost his head.”
He added that he “flipped out” and doesn’t know what happened. He asked the magistrate to give him something “reasonable”. The prosecutor said that at 10:51 hrs Chung was walking along South Road when he approached Singh and asked him for $20, which he refused to give him.
He then held up Singh using a metal object and demanded that he hand over all his money. Singh resisted and Chung escaped. However he was later arrested and charged with the crime.
