Chief Justice (ag) Ian Chang yesterday granted two separate injunctions restraining the Guyana Chronicle and the Guyana Times newspapers from publishing allegedly libellous material on attorney-at-law and columnist, Christopher Ram.
The injunctions were granted following ex-parte applications in the High Court, which were filed by Ram.
The columnist moved against the newspapers for letters published, and which he said contained allegations that are untrue and libellous. He said the Guyana Times also published a libellous cartoon.
Ram, who is also a managing partner in the accounting firm of Ram and Mc Rae, said the publications have severely injured his character and reputation.
He is claiming damages in excess of $100 million dollars in each court application.
The injunctions remain in place until the matters are heard and determined in the High Court. Editor of the Guyana Chronicle, Mark Ramotar and Editor of the Guyana Times, Nigel Williams were also named as defendants in the matters.
The hearing continues next week.
