This sign, at the Russian Embassy turn on the Rupert Craig Highway, is one of five which will be erected at various locations along the coast, as the Mangrove Action Committee (MAC) which was set up by the authorities in February this year, steps up its message regarding the protection of the tropical shrub. Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud, speaking at the unveiling of the sign yesterday, lauded the support the committee has received from all stakeholders, including the private sector as the mangrove reclamation programme gets underway. Chandradat Chintamani of the Demerara Tobacco Company, which supported the mangrove committee by sponsoring the sign, said that the company will continue to provide backing for this initiative.
