A woman was refused bail yesterday by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton when she appeared before her charged with unlawful possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Jacqueline Caines of 61 A Field, Sophia, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to her. It is alleged that on June 7 at Hadfield Street she had in her possession 16 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Caines was represented by attorney Adrian Thompson in association with Tanya Warren. In his bail application, Thompson argued that the narcotics were not found on Caines’s person.
The prosecutor said that the suspected narcotics were found in a container which was in the defendant’s possession.
She further stated that in the caution statement allegedly given by Caines, she had admitted her guilt.
The prosecutor made an application for bail to be refused and a date set.
The application was granted and the matter next comes up on July 13.
