Dear Editor,
I write to bring to your attention as well as to the attention of the Comman-der for the East Coast Demerara Policing Division, the Minister of Home Affairs and all those interested in law and order, a situation that is rearing its ugly head in my community.
About four-five Sundays ago a very disturbing situation started to unfold. Liming seems to have become a regular happening at the Plaisance sea wall (head of Victoria Rd). Loud music could be heard from as far as two miles away with blaring and annoying screams from a DJ who consistently makes nonsensical remarks. This disturbance starts just after lunch and continues until either God intervenes or GPL decides enough is enough and we get a power outage. The latter saved our sanity this last Sunday when the party-keepers decided to proceed with their event up to 1.17hrs when at no other time in my life did I pray so hard for a blackout.
I completely understand the fact that persons must socialize or seek various ways to enjoy themselves, however this must not be done at the expense of other peaceful citizens particularly since this very issue had attracted the attention of the police before.
Editor, I am sure you would agree with me, that if the promoter/s are reasonable in organizing an appropriate time to start and stop considering the working people in that area, everyone would be happy.
I am almost in tears when I see the school-age children who attend the lime. Their apparel sickens the stomach. Editor, I am appealing to all relevant authorities to look into this situation before it gets out of hand. I would also like to suggest to the promoter/s to probably consider Saturday for their parties since it gives residents a whole day to rest.
I also appeal to the relevant authorities to ensure that the holders of this event respect the beauty of the seawall area and be held accountable for any damage to mangroves there. They must be forced to ensure that they clean up after their event.
Yours faithfully,
