Dear Editor,
There is a resident of Shanti Street, Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo who is rearing cattle on the council’s parapet. This gentleman rears cows, chickens and dogs in and around his yard. The stench emanating from the dung of these animals is unbearable to the neighbours.
Recently, he concreted the floor of his cow byre which is on the Neighbour-hood Democratic Council’s (NDC) parapet. This situation is preventing passersby (residents) from walking freely on the road, since cows are standing on the road. At night it is worse. These conditions are leading to abusive confrontations between the owner and residents.
It is clear to the residents of this area, that the NDC is negligent in their duty to the people. How could the NDC of Tuschen, allow a resident to encumber the parapet? Why is this person so special and above the law?
Please note that a letter describing the stench coming out of this cowboy’s lot was sent to the Director of Public Health, Ministry of Health, George-town. It is now over eighteen months since that was done and this situation still remains.
I do hope that good sense will prevail and that the authorities will hasten to remedy this unpleasant situation.
Yours faithfully,
D. Arjune
