Dear Editor,

I wish to convey my sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the late Kelvin Fraser, the Patentia Secondary School student who was gunned down by police just as he was beginning to enjoy the taste of adolescence. I must also register my strongest protest against the crude, irresponsible and violent manner in which the police responded to seemingly non-violent incidents committed by minors.

As a native of Patentia, and one in whose heart the Patentia Secondary School and its students hold a special a place (My novel, The Silver Lining was based at the Patentia Secondary School), I stand in solidarity with those who call for a full and proper investigation of this incident, followed by justice to the satisfaction of the grieving family and all concerned individuals.
