Minister of Education Shaik Baksh says that the printing process used to prepare the National Grade Six Examinations is not compromised.
In response to a question posed by GAP/ROAR MP Everall Franklin in the National Assembly on Thursday, about whether he was satisfied with the process relating to the printing of Grade Six papers in Guyana, Baksh stated that he was satisfied with the process.
He noted that “over the past 10 years” the process has not been compromised. He said that the standards and relevant procedures regarding the printing process are currently being observed and he outlined several measures which have been implemented to safeguard the process.
Baksh stated that with expert guidance, the added security measures included the installation of security cameras, security checks of persons employed at the printing facility, non-use of mobile phones by staff at the printery, barring of visitors to the facility as well as the rotation of temporary staff there.
He also noted that all lithograph stencils utilised at the printing facility are insulated on the premises by the head of the facility, while reiterating that all papers are printed “in-house” since the Grade Six examinations came into effect.
The Secondary School Entrance Examinations (SSEE) was replaced with the performance-based National Grade Assess-ments several years ago, where students seeking entry into secondary institutions are assessed based on their performance during primary education schooling.
