Dear Editor,
I write to express my profound disgust and displeasure at the dismally poor conditions that customers at Camp Site, one of Banks DIH’s Demico branches, located on Camp Street and South Road, are being subjected to as a result of a failed air-conditioning system.
Notwithstanding the fact that the air-conditioning unit has been out of order for several weeks, not once has the management of the Demico outlets or Camp Site in particular seen the need to demonstrate the basic minimum level of courtesy to faithful and loyal customers.
The least that could still be done is to display several signs prominently, apologising for the inconvenience caused and assuring customers that every effort is being made to improve the conditions. Sadly, Camp Site is no longer conducive to drinking tea or coffee because one perspires profusely.
Each time I am about to enter Camp Site, I am greeted by a ‘heatwave’ that forces the staff and customers alike to endure unbearable conditions. I am left to wonder where the Occupational Health and Safety inspectors of Banks DIH and the Ministry of Labour are to see what atrocious conditions the staff are made to work under.
The least said about the union, the better, because the shop steward should have already reported the inconducive conditions that the staff are exposed to.
Many of the already low-paid female staff are forced to resort to torn Lipton tea-bag boxes to fan themselves, and so bring slim relief from the hot conditions whether it be day or night.
The management of Banks DIH should do something to salvage their poor handling of this several weeks-old situation.
Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)
