Canada-based Guyanese Raymond Singh and Taffin Khan emerged joint winners of the Topco Juices Chess tournament which ended Saturday at the Keishar’s Sports Club, Hadfield Street.
The two players ended on six and a half points after defeating the same opponents and drawing their encounter.
According to tournament director Irshad Mohammed, three tie-break systems failed to separate the two players.
Mohammed said the players were unable to contest a playoff as Singh was scheduled to depart Guyana the same evening and both players agreed to share the title.
David Khan was third with five points with his only two losses coming at the hands of his son, Taffin and Singh.
The final points standing; Raymond Singh and Taffin Khan six and a half points, David Khan five points, Learie Webster, Errol Tiwari and Shiv Nandalall on four points apiece, Michael Pereira and Shazeeda Rahim three points, Alex Joseph and Ryan Singh on two points and Ronald Roberts on one point.
In the junior category, Saeed Ali took the top position on the tie-breaker after he and Sham Khan ended on six points each.
Ali, however had beaten Khan in their encounter.
Khalid Gajraj was third.
The final points standing; Saeed Ali and Sham Khan on six points apiece, Khalid Gajraj four and a half, Rashad Hussain three and a half, Cecil Cox and Kana Khan on three points, Devendra Singh two points and Viddesh Shameer on one point.
