A man, who was charged with using threatening language to his reputed wife, was yesterday remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson after allegations of domestic abuse were levelled against him.
Franklin Bradford, 31, of 74 Railway Line, Kitty, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on June 15 he made use of threatening language to Angela Ramsammy, resulting in a breach of the peace.
Bradford maintained that he never threatened Ramsammy but he admitted that they have a problem at home and as a result he cursed her.
However Ramsammy said that Bradford is in the habit of beating her. She said that he told her that their relationship would not go down like that. She said that on the day in question, he became enraged about a comment she made to his sister. She said he went to her workplace and became confrontational.
She said while at home, he tore up all his clothing and was only left with his underwear. He reportedly told her that she could not return to work. She said that night she did not sleep since she was scared that he was going to harm her since there were several sharp instruments nearby.
The next morning, she was allowed to go to work and when Bradford showed up again, she was given an ultimatum by her employer. She then made a report at the station.
She told the magistrate that “I had enough of this, I want to get out.”
Bradford was then remanded. The matter next comes up on June 25 in Court Two.
