In week one of June, the Lucas Stock Index (LSI) rose by one-tenth of one percent. The index showed an increase for the first time in three weeks on the strength of the favorable performance of the stock of Citizens Bank (CBI). The value of CBI stock rose by nearly 2.3 and helped the index to recover some of the value it lost during the past three weeks. The lack of movement in the price of the other stocks in the index also helped the index to regain value. The upward movement in the LSI keeps it in positive territory for the year and significantly above the yield on the risk-free Treasuries that will mature in June 2010.
