Guyana’s High Commissioner to the UK has commended the Guyana Law Association (UK) for a shipment of law books, reports and other legal materials to the local courts and UG Law Department.
According to a press release High Commissioner Laleshwar Singh CCH, said the shipment is timely as students will now be able to supplement their research from a large collection of legal texts from a disparate group of legal institutions and private individuals in the UK.
UG’s collection of books was depleted after damage by floods.
The Law Department’s needs were highlighted when one of the GLA’s founder members Colin Bobb-Semple recently held discussions with Head of the Law Faculty Mrs Elias-Roberts and her staff including Librarian Gwyneth George.
The release said the shipment was sent to acting Chancellor Carl Singh for dissemination within the Courts. This continues the series of shipments over the years which have contributed to the law library of the Supreme Court, regarded as an outstanding source of legal materials for reference and research. The outlying courts have also benefited from stocks of law reports and practitioners texts. So far, the GLA (UK) has shipped over $1 million of law books and legal materials to Guyana.
