Jamaican comedian Oliver Samuels and the cast of Puppy Love say that they are looking forward to entertaining Guyanese and promised to provide a family show filled with laughter.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Digicel head office yesterday, Oliver and his cast, Dania, Earl and Natalie provided a background to the play and their expectations.
Samuels said that he was grateful to be in Guyana and thanked the telecommunications company for organising the event. He said that when he visits this country, he feels most at home. This is the first visit to Guyana by Dania, Earl and Natalie.
The play Puppy Love was written by Jamaican writer Patrick Brown. It traces the relationship of a married couple and the temptations which come along after many years of marriage.
Although it is a comedy, there are elements of seriousness which explore friendships, love and family relationships.
Public Relations Officer of Digicel Shonnet Moore said that the show is a Father’s Day treat to Digicel customers. She said while the company would have loved to offer everyone an opportunity to see Samuels in action, it was not possible because of limited space. Customers of Digicel were afforded the opportunity to win two tickets each by texting Oliver to 1442. She added that all the tickets have been won and the company was amazed at the response received.
Samuels, who has been in theatre for the last 40 years attributes his success to being true to himself and being humble.
He said it is important to remain humble despite the many praises and accolades one receives.
The media was then treated to a mini excerpt from the play. Based on the performance, the audience seems in for a treat when Puppy Love hits the stage tonight and tomorrow night at the National Cultural Centre.
