The Linden Citizens Committee (LCC) salutes Mr Paul Slowe, the Assistant Commissioner of Police for his sterling contribution to the Guyanese nation. He is an outstanding hero who has inspired thousands of people who are proud of him. This senior police officer is like a rare gem functioning within the rule of law and not outside the law. In Guyana today corruption is everywhere. Mr Paul Slowe has demonstrated by example that one can stand tall over corruption and not be hooked by this spreading cancer.
There is another outstanding hero in Guyana by the name of Mr Frederick Kissoon. The LCC salutes this brave, courageous gentleman whose writing has captivated tens of thousands of people in and out of Guyana. His pen has brought to light many wrongdoings that have taken place in our society and which continue to happen. Such revelations triggered wrath and vengeance, and Mr Kissoon had faecal waste thrown on him. The LCC condemns this vicious act directed at this writer.
We also condemn the savage attack on Mr Pretipaul Jaigobin who was burnt with acid because of the exposure of alleged corruption within the Guyana Cricket Board.
Dr Walter Rodney was a hero who gave his life so that Guyana could become a truly democratic state governed by the rule of law. We of the LCC commemorate the death of this great man.
The historian came to Linden for the first time on Sunday February 2, 1975; he was invited by the Organization of Working People, then a militant bauxite workers’ movement. In the mining town Rodney delivered the main address at the organisation’s first anniversary.
Guyanese heroes and heroines must be hailed.
