Two persons died after they sustained multiple injuries when two cars collided on the No 2 Road, Canje around 7.30 pm yesterday.
Tony ‘Rocky’ Taloo, 25, a pedal cyclist of Fort Ordnance, East Canje, appeared to have died on the spot while Sureshdyal Kalipersaud of Sheet Anchor, East Canje, succumbed while receiving treatment at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Reports are that the drivers of two AT 212 Toyota Carina motorcars, HB 7214 and HB 6777 were racing along the road when the driver of HB7214, a white car, hit a cow as he was about to overtake the other car.
He then struck HB 6777, following which the white car started to spin, turning turtle several times. It was at some point when turning turtle that it then struck down Taloo, who had just left home and was riding his cycle.
The vehicle came to rest upside down after Steve Ramsarran had been flung out. The driver, known as ‘Fat Boy’ sustained injuries, and ended up in a drain.
Meanwhile, after the impact with the white car, HB 6777 crashed into the veranda post of a house and then into a fence separating the property from the neighbour’s yard.
The injured persons were picked up and rushed to the hospital by public-spirited citizens.
Reports are that Kalipersaud had spent three years in Tortola, British Virgin Islands and had only returned to Guyana three days ago.
