Two men posing as passengers robbed a taxi driver of $800 and drove off with his car which they stripped of several parts before abandoning it several miles away.
Peter Angeer, driver of HB 1800, was held up at the Good Hope Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara at about 8 pm on Saturday. Investigations, police said in a release yesterday, revealed that the men hired Angeer at the Stabroek Market area to take them to Good Hope.
The men, one armed with a handgun, held up Angeer, took away his cash and drove off with his car. However, a quick response by the police led to the recovery of the car at Cove and John. The perpetrators managed to strip the vehicle of an amplifier, stereo and a cellular phone before leaving it there.
