Dear Editor,
Some time ago, the powers that be promulgated that all taxis/hire cars in Guyana would have to be yellow in colour by a certain date. To promote this position, an incentive was offered to all vehicles which were yellow before the specified date. I do believe that the authorities had a particular ‘yellow’ in mind. If I am mistaken in my belief, the rest of this letter is almost a nonsense. If I am not, what has resulted is a perfect example of Guyanese enthusiasm at its best.
At this juncture, it is necessary to state that I am not colour blind, and that I am no expert on colours. However, I must also state that there was never the realization that there were so many different ‘yellows’! We have on our roads today taxis/hire cars that are bright yellow, dark yellow, dull yellow, pale yellow, golden yellow, weak yellow, and, having exhausted my repertoire of appropriately descriptive adjectives, yellowish. My simple question is, is this collection of ‘yellows’ what the authorities had in mind?
Yours faithfully,
C E Housty
