A mini-bus driver was remanded to prison for allegedly causing the death of a woman by dangerous driving when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday charged with the offence.
Trevor Boston pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him. It is alleged that on April 3 at Croal Street, he drove minibus BLL 6268 in a manner dangerous to the public and caused the death of Alberta Nelson.
Boston, 33, of 101 Pearl, East Bank Demerara was represented by attorney Michael Sommersaul. He told the court that his client had never had an accident before this incident.
Further, he said that on the day in question, Boston was proceeding west along Croal Street and while in the vicinity of Light Street, Nelson appeared from behind a bus and crossed the road without looking.
As a result, the accident occurred.
The attorney added that his client then transported Nelson to the hospital where she was hospitalized for six days before succumbing to her injuries.
He asked for reasonable bail to be granted.
Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford said that he had no objection to bail but bail was refused and the matter put down for June 23 in Court Seven.
