What could have been a major disaster was averted as Guyana Power and Light workers at the generating station at Versailles, West Bank Demerara acted quickly to put out a fire yesterday.

Yesterday morning, flames were observed flickering from a Caterpillar generator, a source told this newspaper. The source said that staff acted quickly to put out the flames, shutting off power. By the time fire service officials arrived, the blaze was extinguished. The incident is being investigated.
