On Monday the concluding programme from Guest Programmer Paul Lee will be aired. This programme is entitled ‘Men in Shorts’ and features a series of short films from Canada, Lebanon, Turkey, USA and the UK which explore the relationships between men and looks at non-sexual ways in which male bonding happens which are not about dominance and power, but could be about nurturing tenderness, affection and strength. Among the films on offer is Makbul His Favoured One, based on a 16th Century Turkish story.
Another film, The Offering, is about the relationship between a Buddhist monk and novice.
Thick Lips, Thin Lips a musical film about racist and homophobic violence, portrays two men, one Asian and one Afro-Caribbean, trying to overcome differences and difficulties in their attempt to kiss each other.
On Tuesday 29 June, the Spectrum Celebration invites the audience who have been attending the festival to perform poetry, dance, song or drama.
The closing film on Wednesday 30 June is a festival favourite, Kinky Boots. Inspired by true events, Kinky Boots is a comedy which challenges prejudice and intolerance. After the death of his father, Charlie Price must find a way to save his family’s failing shoe factory, or his entire town would be left out in the cold. Charlie finds help in an unlikely ally – female impersonator “Lola”, and together they would hatch a plot to save the factory.
All members of the public are invited. Programmes start at 7pm and admission is free. The programmes are for mature audiences only
