The Guyana Cultural Association (GCA) has issued a call for nominations for its 2010 Awards which will be held on September 1 in New York as a precursor to the events to mark the annual Folk Festival Labour Day weekend.
According to a release from the association, the awards aim to recognise the significant contributions made by organizations in their communities by inspiring citizens and improving their environs. The three special awards to be handed out will honour individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment towards achievement.
The awards will be held under the theme, ‘Diversity in our villages, Harmony in our culture’. Twelve awards will be handed out and the three special awards to be awarded are the GCA Lifetime Achievement Award, GCA Exemplary Award and the Youth Award.
Further, the release noted that nominees should showcase cultural attributes which Guyanese admire, honour and preserve. Persons desirous of making nominations have until July 16 and the nominations can be sent to awardsnominations@guyfolkfest.org.
