The Indian Arrival Committee in collaboration with the Broek en Waterland Mandir, Mahaica held a special service two Sundays ago to pay tribute to the late Hindu priest Shri Prakash Gossai.
According to a press release devotees and friends of the late priest “braved the inclement weather and turned out in large numbers in remembrance of the first anniversary of his sudden and shocking death.” While Gossai’s work made travelling across the country necessary, organisers believed it was fitting to host the tribute at the Mahaica mandir since he hailed from the area. Many tributes in songs and messages were rendered, the release said.
The release said addresses were given by Minister of Health Leslie Ramsammy, IAC Executive Member Neaz Subhan, Ambassador of Peace Roshan Khan, Pandit Ravi Persaud and Gossai’s relatives and close friends.
Pandit Dharmo of Cane Grove officiated at the ceremony. Devotees recalled Gossai’s humility and his ability to transcend barriers in his endeavour for peace and unity.
Gossai passed away on June 15, 2009.
