The results of the post-mortem examination conducted on the remains of Tirbawaniepersaud ‘Randy’ Totaram, 47, of Grant 1805 Crabwood Creek proved that he died from shock and haemorrhage due to puncture to the groin.
Two persons were taken into custody over the weekend as police continue their investigations. A steel rod from a concrete drain that is under construction was stuck in Totaram’s groin and protruded through his back.
The unemployed Totaram, who was discovered dead around 6:45 am on Thursday also had a wound to his head and marks of violence to his foot and other parts of his body. Police recovered a piece of blood-covered wood close to the scene.
Police sources told this newspaper yesterday that it appeared as though persons had beaten the man and as he was fleeing he fell and was impaled on the steel rod.
However relatives believe he was murdered some time on Wednesday night along the sea-dam, where a pool of blood was found close to a pair of shorts belonging to him. Another pool of blood was also about three feet away from where his body was found.
His family members had told this newspaper that they believe that he had left home to go to a house nearby where some persons were drinking to “beg fuh lil rum.”
Reports are that an empty rum bottle was found in the pocket of his shorts. Totaram, who was described as a heavy drinker, had been consuming alcohol alone at home earlier.
Relatives felt that his body, which was clad only in his underwear, was lifted and deliberately stuck face-down on the one-ft high steel-rod to make it appear like an accident.
His sister Geno Persaud who came from Canada for his funeral told this newspaper that his body would be cremated today.
She said it is clear that her brother was murdered and she “can’t imagine how someone could do that to him.” She is awaiting the completion of the cremation before she checks with the police on the progress of the investigations.
