A man was being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital last night after he was shot in his knee by a policeman at Coconut Dam, Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara.
Police said that Lyndon McCurdy, 27, of Supply, Mahaica was shot in circumstances that are not too clear and the Police Office of Professional Responsibility has launched an investigation which is expected to be completed expeditiously. The incident occurred at about 8 pm and McCurdy is in a stable condition. The police said in a statement that McCurdy was wanted by the police for questioning into reports of simple larceny and threatening language allegedly committed in the Mahaica district. Acting on information received the police proceeded to Coconut Dam where he was seen and arrested, during which he was shot to his left knee.
According to hospital sources, McCurdy had snatched a chain, which was recovered on him at the hospital.
