Benn, Roach make small strides in ICC rankings

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Despite West Indies’ series loss to South Africa in the three-Test series, rookie bowlers Sulieman Benn and Kemar Roach have made strides in the International Cricket Council bowlers rankings.

Benn, who snatched 15 wickets at an average of 30, jumped three places to 31st in the rankings while Roach, who claimed just six wickets, moved nine places up to 38th spot.

An aggressive left-arm spinner, Benn finished with career-best figures of six for 81 in the just concluded third Test at Kensington Oval which the hosts lost by seven wickets inside four days on Tuesday.

Pacer Roach, meanwhile, had an erratic series and his best returns also came in the second innings of the last Test when he captured three for 22 in a hostile spell.

In the batting rankings, Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the biggest mover for the Windies, claiming sixth place after jumping three spots.

The veteran left-hander was yet again his side’s leading run-scorer with 300 runs at an average of 75. He is now ahead of Indian batting star Sachin Tendulkar and South Africa’s Jacques Kallis.

Indian opener Virender Sehwag remains in the number one position in the batting rankings while South African fast bowler Dale Steyn continues to top the bowlers’ rankings.
