With over 70 horses registered for eight races and over three million dollars in prizes to be won, Sunday’s Ryan Crawford memorial Turf Club Meet promises to be all excitement.
The Alness Village is expected to come alive on Sunday with the staging on the five feature events.
The country’s top two-year-olds will compete in two divisions: one race for horses born and bred in Guyana and the other for the West Indies-bred horses going a distance of 1,000m.
Prize monies will be $180,000 and $200,000 respectively along with a complimentary trophy.
The entrants for the Guyana-bred horses are Apostle, Nordan, Wicked Intention, Ragh Baby, Big Driver, Water Wave, Royal Request, Speed Vision and Sweet Brotherland.
For the West Indies-bred horses it was reported that Better than Gold from the Jagdeo’s Stables, Sabrina’s Joy, of the Jumbo Jet Stables, Irish Girl, coming from the L. Singh Stables and a few others have registered.
The three-year-old event will be without the champion Jumbo Jet’s Zianata, which died during the recent equine outbreak earlier last month. It is expected that she will be missed at the venue by supporters and betters alike.
The horses in this category are Peaceful, Megan’s Choice, Jen’s Pride, Stonny Lass, Stonny Water, Five Star General, Celebration Time and others. This event at present is wide open and there will be a first prize of $350,000 and other regular prizes.
The E & Lower race over 1,400m fetches a winning purse of $240,000. The horses entered for this event are Maracus Star, Mattarazi, Tropical Passion, Night Crescendo, Madam Butterfly, Laura Lee in Flight and others.
The C & Lower category race, which is sponsored by Banks DIH Ltd, has a trophy and a first prize of $350,000 over a distance of 1,600m. Miss Republic, Miss Orientate, Annie’s Playmate, Delmur Gold, World Gass, Sweet Revenge, and The Message have already been registered for the event.
The G & Lower Sprint Oasis, which covers a distance of 1,100m, will see the winner copping a trophy and $160,000. The likes of Pegasus Rising, The Gap, Royal Champion, Vanessa, Casino Royal, Stylish Line and Face De Music will battle for supremacy.
The I & J Gass event has already attracted over 20 horses. Therefore, the organisers had to split the event in two categories. There will be one race for I Gass horses open and another for I 3 & Lower horses. These are horses which have not won in this class and other lower classes since January 1, 2010 to July.
The final race of the card is for horses classified K & L galloping over a distance of 1,200m.
