The Marian Academy under-18 squad remained undefeated in the National Schools Basketball Festival after recording three wins in three days.
On Tuesday they blew out Trust College 54-18 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Marian’s Tequain Vieira led his team’s scoring once again and was the most sensational of their three players in double figures with 23 points.
He was assisted efficiently by Ruel Ritch and Selvaughn Moseley who gathered 10 points apiece.
With Dominic Vincente as their main contributor for Trust College, this game marked their third straight defeat.
Vincente piloted his team for the third straight game until he was fouled out, only managing a 10-point top score.
Having played two games, Kwakwani also remained undefeated following their 53-25 points whipping of fellow Berbician’s in the opening game. Almost all of the Kwakwani players registered their names on the scoreboard, but Dominique Douglas displayed his class once again with his 14 points top score.
Also assisting Douglas with double figures were Cleon Danjon and Ted Rogers with 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Berbice line-up was outclassed by the victors, but it was evident that with all round contribution they could’ve been more competitive as only three players pitched in on the score sheet. Their guard Kobe Crawford has the first name of a star and is a potential star in the making.
He bagged 10 points and 12 rebounds. Dason Rose was the lead scorer for Berbice with 11 points.
Motivated by their older players, Kwakwani’s under-16 squad followed in their footsteps in the following game against Saint Stanislaus College, delivering a 37-21 points beating.
Eon Meredith netted a game high 17 points for Kwakwani, while Leonard Primo and Orwin Samuels totalled 10 points each.
Lorenzo Bethune headlined Saints’ scoring with 10 points.
In other games played West Demerara suffered another loss. This time they went down 22-19 at the hands of Plaisance in their under-16 game, while Silver City came back strong after an opening defeat on Monday to trounce Charlestown 39-28.
Plaisance came out on top of President’s College 47-33 and in the battle of the Saints, St. Stanilaus prevailed over St Roses 35-26.
In Tuesday’s feature game the University of Guyana scraped a 27-24 point victory over the Government Technical Institute to secure their second straight win in the tournament.
