LOS ANGELES, (Reuters) – Phil Jackson, who won a record 11th NBA title last month, has shelved plans to retire and will stay on as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers for one more season, the NBA team said yesterday.
The 64-year-old Jackson had been holding off on making his decision until he completed annual medical tests. Jackson will return seeking a third straight title, a feat he has already accomplished three times before.
“Count me in,” he said on the team’s website.“After a couple weeks of deliberation, it is time to get back to the challenge of putting together a team that can defend its title in the 2010-11 season. It’ll be the last stand for me, and I hope a grand one.”
