A Middle Street businessman was admitted to the intensive care unit of a city hospital yesterday after he allegedly shot himself to the chin.
In a press release, police said they were investigating the circumstances under which Deryck Khanai, 50, shot himself around midday. A .357 Magnum revolver along with one spent shell was recovered from the scene by the police. Khanai is not the holder of a firearm license.
Reports indicate that Khanai was home with a brother who only heard a gunshot, then saw him running down the stairs holding his mouth which was bleeding. He was subsequently rushed to the hospital where he remains a patient.
