Dear Editor,
I am appealing to the speedboat association to look into the unsafe and uncomfortable boats that ply the Supenaam-Parika route. We as customers, have to put up with the rain and water from the river soaking us every time we travel that route; all the protection provided by the boat operators is a piece of synthetic leather. When the rain falls everyone travelling in the boat gets soaked. I recall my last experience when all the passengers were soaked by the rain. I had to pay $4000 more for a taxi from Parika to Georgetown, because I was so wet I couldn’t travel by bus.
One observation, whenever there is a little crisis with fuel, they are the first to increase their prices, but they never put in place systems for passenger safety.
Why can’t the association make it mandatory for the Supenaam-Parika boats to have the same type of enclosure as the Bartica-Parika boats. Those boats are more comfortable and passengers are protected from the sun and rain.
I am suggesting that the relevant authorities look at making this change on the boats mandatory; after all business is about satisfying the customer.
Yours faithfully,
Lindsay Fredericks
