Champion sprinter to skip Commonwealth Games says agent

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Officials have failed to woo Usain Bolt to the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be staged later this year here.

Preliminary entry lists have been printed with the name of the undisputed sprint champion of the World.

But the Jamaican’s handlers have given a strong indication that he will not line-up for either the 100 or 200 metres for which he has made himself a household name around the World.

“I can 100 percent confirm that Usain will not be running at the Commonwealth Games,” manager Ricky Simms said in the Times of India.

“Maybe this list was sent in some time ago. The Commonwealth Games is definitely not on Usain’s schedule for this year.”

Bolt is currently recovering from an Achilles tendon injury, which has sidelined him from recent meets in IAAF Diamond League series.

The Commonwealth Games, which feature 71 nations and territories of the former British empire, are set for October 3 to 14.

At the same time, Bolt has also threatened to pull out of a Diamond League meet in Britain, unless a row over the tax he pays on appearance fees and prize money is settled.

Bolt was set to join a star-studded 100m cast for the London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on August 13 and 14.

But The Sun newspaper in Britain reported that he stands to earn around 100,000 pounds sterling in appearance fees and prize money, and under current British laws, he is liable to pay up to 50 per cent tax on any earnings.
