Guyana’s next top models are hours away from being crowned and this year and a plus size model will also be singled out.
Designer Sonia Noel who is behind the initiative said on Thursday that the time is counting down on what could be “the best model search we have had to date”. She said the months of planning and the ongoing training are winding down.
“The road to this point has been difficult for some of the models, designers and stylists but we are getting there. This competition has been so intense…and it’s important, important because the local industry here is seeing a new pool of people who are serious about fashion,” Sonia said.
The finals of Guyana Model Search dubbed ‘Glamorous’ will be held at the Pegasus Hotel tomorrow night; the other instalments of the show which includes designer portfolio and the stylist competition will also wrap up tomorrow.
Sonia said the designers and stylists are particularly eager to unveil what they have been working on these past months. In addition, she said the chefs who competed for top finishes in that segment of the competition will put in appearances at the show. No winner was announced last weekend when the chefs competed in their finals, but the announcement is expected tomorrow.
Sonia said the show promises “drama, lots of it”. She said past model search contestants are returning to the catwalk and the competition in an interesting way for the finals. In addition to the catwalk challenge a few collections would be unveiled including new pieces from Sonia. She said too that Barbadian designer Kingsley Thorne will be also unveiling a male and female line at the show.
