Amna Ally was lauded as a disciplinarian, a good organiser; efficient and resourceful among other things at a valedictory ceremony in her honour to mark her retirement as Headmistress of the Redeemer Primary School.
Ally, a member of parliament, has served as headmistress of the school for nearly ten years. She joined the school in 1998. She was commended for doing a “tremendous job” at the school by the PTA and for having fought aggressively to better equip her teachers with the tools needed to do their jobs.
Her fellow teachers meanwhile said Ally possessed excellent administrative skills as well as being a great role model who “is always there”.
Ministry of Educational officials present wished Ally all the best and encouraged her to continue to work in the education field. Acting Chief Education Officer Genevieve Whyte-Nedd challenged Ally to “retool” as she proceeded into retirement and encouraged her to continue work in the education field.
Principal Education Officer of the Department of Education wished Ally all the best and said he admired her outspoken manner and urged her to utilise her talents towards the development of the country.
Meanwhile Basil Williams, PNC member, expressed pride in the work Ally has done at the school and congratulated her. He said Ally had energy, tenacity and persistence that would benefit any organisation.
The ceremony was attended by parents, teachers and students of the school, members of the Teaching Service Commission, MPs, Minister within the Ministry of Health Dr Bheri Ramsarran and PNC party officials.
Ally leaves behind a legacy of working tirelessly to upgrade the school. She is credited with upgrading the school’s reading room, constructing a nutrition and etiquette centre, constructing accommodation for parents, developing recreation and sport facilities, promoting child friendly classrooms among other things.
