A 21-year-old woman, of Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara, yesterday succumbed to injuries which she sustained during an accident on Tuesday last.
Dead is Bridgette Cumberbatch, who sustained multiple injuries when the driver of a vehicle in which she was a passenger lost control, resulting in it plunging into a trench along the railway embankment at Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara.
While relatives of the woman were reluctant to disclose any information about the incident yesterday, this newspaper understands that she was seated in the passenger side of the vehicle, a Toyota Raum, when the driver lost control of the vehicle around 3:30 that afternoon.
A relative of the woman told Stabroek News yesterday that the driver of the vehicle was hospitalized briefly with minor injuries while Cumberbatch, who was a patient of the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) until her death, sustained spinal and neck injuries. She passed away around 11:30 am yesterday.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
