Undefeated Rapon wins FIDE chess tourney

Martinique’s Karl Rapon played unbeaten to win  the Guyana /FIDE International rating Tournament which ended yesterday at the National Stadium at Providence.

In second position was Cassanova Romario Sanches of Suriname with seven points while Trinidad’s Hayden Lee with six points was third.

Guyana’s Taffin Khan was fourth with five points which came from four wins and two draws.

Shiv Nandalall was fifth, Ronuel Greenidge sixth and Loris Nathoo seventh.

Barbados’s Michael Barker with three points finished in eighth position while Guyana’s Ryan Singh with one and a half points and David Khan with one point occupied the remaining places.

The tournament which started on Friday brought  the four internationally ranked players and the six locals together in a nine round Swiss system tournament. The Guyanese players will now subsequently be furnished with international ratings from the international body; the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

Trophies were awarded to the first three players while the remaining players received medals.
