For many years Murielle Albertha McBean, a 76-year-old resident of 954 Victory Valley, Wismar, Linden had been frustrated trying to acquire a modest house but after a few unfulfilled promises the victory lap is underway.

Owing to her poor economic situation the house she  lived in had deteriorated.

The elderly woman has been calling for the assistance of any group or individual to help her complete her house so she could reclaim her independence.

For twenty-five years she had worked as a security guard with a local  firm and her hope was to be able to accumulate sufficient funds  to renovate her home.

“Things started going it own way when deh owner of me workplace went away with all we money and me ain’t get a cent (pension) after working with dem (security firm named) for twenty-five years,” McBean related.

She said that hopes for a new home came alive when representatives of a charitable organization visited her some time ago. “Deh come and tek pictures and all kinda things and tell me deh gon build a proper house for me but that was just another set of promises,” she lamented.

The elderly woman said that she had related her story to some residents of the Victory Valley Community Group who had promised to assist in repairing the house.   President of the Victory Valley Community Group Lavern Baird said that the woman had sought their assistance in lowering her house since it was too high and was in a dilapidated state. “It wasn’t until we done pull down the house that we realize that the materials wasn’t good,” Baird said.

Over a month ago McBean said that she was relaxing in her home when the members of the group came ‘hot and sweaty’ and told her that they were going to pull down the house to start reconstruction the following day which they did.

“I had some materials from deh church which was to do some patch work and is dah deh tek fuh do over deh house but it couldn’t do,” the woman said as she began weeping.

Since that day McBean has had all her household effects  stored at several residents in the community and she has been seeking shelter from friends in the community.

“Is not that I am being treated bad or anything but I need to be in the comfort of my own home, my things are stored here, there and everywhere and people need to have their privacy,” the woman explained as she continued sobbing.

She said that since she has not been hearing anything positive from the community group she had approached Regional Chairman Mortimer Mingo for assistance.

“I met him at a bar and I heard him telling a man in my presence to take some materials over to my place since Saturday and up til now I ain’t see nat a thing,” she related.

Meanwhile, Baird  has said that they had approached the RDC for assistance and were successful in getting their commitment and they are scheduled to return shortly to do  follow-up work on McBean’s house.
