The miner who was beaten to death at 14 Miles, Issano early Tuesday morning, has been identified as Allan Welch of Lot 68 Bagotville, West Bank Demerara.
At press time last evening, the remains of the 54-year-old man were at Bartica and are to be transported to the city today. It is unclear if anyone has been arrested.
Welch’s daughter, Nneka told Stabroek News that someone called relatives and later the cousin who her father worked for, called and confirmed his passing.
She said that details on what exactly took place were sketchy but they knew for certain that he was beaten to death.
A team of police ranks from the Bartica Police Station were dispatched to the area to investigate.
