The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security on Wednesday donated several pieces of salon equipment to the cosmetology programme of the David Rose Special School and committed to providing four sewing machines to its sewing programme.
In her address at the presentation ceremony Minister Priya Manickchand said it is important to remember that people living with disabilities have equal rights to all opportunities available in Guyana. She said too the presentation “should not be seen as a donation to the needy, but rather, a clear demonstration of government’s commitment to fostering growth and development for all citizens.”
The minister urged parents of differently-abled children to register with the ministry to ensure that they benefit from its ongoing programme to assist those living with disabilities.
Headmistress at the school Dionne McKenzie lauded the ministry’s efforts to support the programme. “We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being so dedicated and committed to our programmes.
You have given our children hope that there is life out there after they have finished schooling.”
