A group of underprivileged and single-parent women from Kwakwani will soon benefit from Information Technology and Office Procedure training to make them employable.
The programme is being hosted under the theme ‘Building Capacity for Skills Advancement’, a press release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said. The programme was organised by the Guyana Women’s Leadership Institute (GWLI) of the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security and will be launched by Minister of Labour Manzoor Nadir at the Kwakwani Primary School in Region 10 on Monday.
GINA said a press release from the ministry said the programme will provide a medium through which the ministry will be able to fulfil its mandate of reducing poverty among the said group of women.
It will also be able to fulfil its international mandates to the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Millennium Development Goals.
The ministry, through the institute has extended the programmes to hinterland and rural communities so that more women can benefit countrywide. Women who are community leaders will be equipped to manage groups or individual businesses.
GINA said the programme is the fulfilment of a commitment Nadir made to the community during a May 22 Cabinet outreach.
It will be held from Monday until September 3. Participants who complete the training are expected to receive certificates in the respective areas.
