A woman is now homeless after a fire destroyed her house at Parfait-Harmonie, West Bank Demerara early yesterday morning.
Security guard Isabella Hinds, 49, was at work in the city when her home was burned and police are investigating reports that her former partner acted on threats that he would burn the house down. The incident occurred at about 1:30am yesterday.
This newspaper was told that Hinds lived alone. However, three weeks ago she and her partner encountered problems and she put him out.
She had left home for work at about 6pm on Thursday and later that night the man reportedly went to her workplace and threatened her, saying also that he would burn the house down.
Hinds’ sister, Desmonda told police that she received a call from Hinds asking her to check on the house. However, at about 1:30am yesterday, she received a call from a neighbour who said that the building was on fire. When she reached there, she said, the small home was destroyed. Police are investigating.
