DHAKA, (Reuters) – Bangladesh recalled former captain Mohammad Ashraful and all-rounder Naeem Islam yesterday after batsman Roqibul Hassan and wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim were ruled out of the ongoing one-day series against England.
Roqibul, who top scored for his side with 76 in the first ODI, was injured after being struck by the ball on the left toe while Mushfiqur was hit in the face by left-arm spinner Faisal Hossain and had to be stretchered off the field.
“Ashraful left home this morning while Naeem will also fly out in the next available flight as Roqibul and Mushfiqur will not be available in the remaining two matches of the series,” chief selector Rafiqul Alam told Reuters.
Bangladesh lost the first ODI of the three-match series by six wickets in Nottingham on Thursday.
Alam said Roqibul would be out of action for two weeks, ruling him out of ODIs against Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands, but he was hopeful Mushfiqur would return for the Ireland and Scotland ODIs.
Uncapped wicketkeeper Sahgir Hossain had also been called up as cover, he added.
“He (Sahgir) will join the squad as soon as possible subject to visa approval. Until he reaches England, batsman Jahirul Islam will handle the job of wicketkeeper,” said Alam.
